  • Writing samples may be submitted as attachments by email to writersconference@bemidjistate.edu. Include your name and contact information on the writing sample and in the body of the email.
  • Poetry, Fiction, and Creative Nonfiction Workshops: A five to fifteen page writing sample in the genre you are applying for must be submitted unless you are applying in a genre for a workshop that you’ve previously attended at the Minnesota Northwoods Writers Conference.
  • Literary Translation Workshop: A two or three page writing sample must be submitted.

Workshops There are additional application requirements for some of the workshops. After your application is processed and you are accepted, you will receive a registration packet.
Poetry, Fiction, and Creative Nonfiction Workshops
  • For writers at any stage of development who work hard at their writing and want to better understand the creative act.
  • A five to fifteen page writing sample in the genre you are applying for must be submitted. Writing samples will not be returned. (The sample is not required if you are applying for a workshop that you’ve previously attended at the Minnesota Northwoods Writers Conference.)

  • Participants are selected on the basis of promise or accomplishment in the writing sample.
  • Submissions will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Applicants will be notified of results within two weeks of receipt; successful applicants will receive a registration packet with the results letter.
Literary Translation Workshop
  • For writers at any stage of development who work hard at their writing and want to better understand act of literary translation.

  • Writing experience is not required.

Workshop You are Applying For You may apply for more than one workshop, but will be accepted in only one. You must select a first choice; a second choice is optional.

Scholarship Opportunities Scholarships opportunities are based on need and merit and intended to lower financial barriers for those who want to engage in this unique arts learning opportunity. One $300 scholarship is awarded toward the conference fee in each of the following workshops: literary translation, creative nonfiction, fiction, and poetry. One $410 scholarship toward the conference fee is awarded to a Minnesota resident. The application deadline is May 1, 2013.
